Science & Research
Kyolic is built on scientific research. Collaborative research on Aged Garlic Extract™ (AGE) has been, and continues to be, developed extensively with universities, hospitals, and research institutes. To date, over 850 peer-reviewed research papers have been published that attest to the health benefits of Aged Garlic Extract™.
Cardioprotective Effects of AGE
Several studies have demonstrated the positive effect of AGE on cardiovascular health. AGE has been shown to inhibit plaque formation in the coronary artery, have lipid lowering effects, lower cholesterol, lower high blood pressure, increase circulation, and to have blood thinning effects. These effects indicate that AGE may play an important role in the prevention of cardiovascular disease.
Immune Enhancement Effects of AGE
AGE has been shown to have several positive effects on immune function. Several randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials have demonstrated that consuming AGE daily increased natural killer (NK) cell activity and improved helper/suppressor T cell ratios when compared with the placebo groups.
A 2012 study by Nantz, Rowe, et al. demonstrated that after 90 days of consuming 2.56 g of AGE daily, the test group reported statistically significant reductions in cold and flu symptoms. The same studies also found that AGE was significantly more effective in producing such results than a comparable dose of raw garlic.
Antioxidative Effects of AGE
Numerous studies show AGE’s potential as an antioxidant. Many scientific research studies support that AGE may help protect against aging, radiation, chemical exposure, and many oxidant-induced disease conditions. Clinical studies have also shown that AGE and its constituents have superior antioxidant properties when compared to raw garlic, which tends to stimulate oxidative stress.
Anti-Stress and Anti-Fatigue Effects of AGE
Garlic has also been shown to aid in the treatment of fatigue and stress-induced immunosuppression due to physical activity, although the mechanism involved remains unclear and requires further research. Several studies have confirmed that consuming garlic improves symptoms of physical fatigue through a variety of actions. AGE has been shown to be the most effective method of garlic preparation for optimal anti-fatigue effects.
Brain, Neurotrophic, Anti-Aging, and Anti-Depression Effects of AGE
AGE and one of its main compounds, S-allylcysteine (SAC) have been demonstrated to increase the survival rate of neuron cells, have a positive effect on establishing new neural networks, improve memory and learning, and enhance brain function due to improved immune system response. Several clinical studies have also examined the relationship between AGE and the prevention of aging and concluded that AGE may be useful for the prevention of certain aging processes.
Other Pharmacological Effects
Various other pharmacological effects of AGE have been discovered through clinical studies. These include anti-bacterial properties, anti-fungal properties, protection from heavy metals, protection from insecticides, improved male reproductive function, and blood building effects, to name a few.
